Drafting a behavior support plan from observed data
Articles are currently available in English.
Describe what can be observed
Use an operational description of the target behavior. Record the setting, what happened beforehand, what followed, and the measurement method. Avoid labels about a learner’s character or motivation.
Do not invent a function
Use findings supplied by the qualified team. If the function has not been established, identify the gap for review. An AI tool cannot conduct an assessment from a short description.
Make proposed supports specific
Describe prevention strategies, an accessible replacement skill, how that skill will be taught, and how staff will record progress. Confirm responsibilities and review dates with the team. Crisis and safety procedures need the school’s approved process and appropriately trained staff.
Use the BIP drafting tool only with de-identified context, then review every proposed strategy before use.
